So Georgia lifted its shelter in place order this week and I’m having mixed emotions about it. On one hand, I’d like to ignore the pandemic and pretend its not happening. On the other, more realistic side of me, I’m extremely nervous about removing the restrictions. My family has been sheltered in for almost 7 weeks. I order all my groceries in, I only go out for walks in the neighborhood, and we cook all of our food. Having a baby <1 year old, parents who are at a slightly higher risk because of their age, and understanding the medical implications of coronavirus, I just do not want to take any chances.
Am I the extreme rule follower? Yes. I’m pretty sure I always have been.
Am I extremely fortunate that I am able to follow these guidelines to this extent? Absolutely.
I am fortunate that Jake’s job has not been impacted and we still have an income to sustain our family on. Others are not so fortunate. So I understand that we can not keep the economy shut down forever. I GET IT. That is exactly why this whole scenario is a catch 22.
So in the midst of all of this confusion, I have been trying to watch the news less while still remaining informed. I use this time to do something for me—such as read a book, mask, do my nails, or try a new recipe. Small, silly things, I know. If I can accomplish one of these things a day with my two crazy children it is a successful day. But it seems to help my overall mood when I do. I’m not as anxious. I’ve accepted our reality. And I am trying to make the best of it.
Here are some random things I have been doing:
Oliveandjune.com This is by far the best nail polish I have ever tried. I don’t go to get my nails done at the salon very often as I do not have the time nor do I enjoy it all that much. But I do like for them to look polished. Highly, highly recommend! And they sell them at target for the day in our future when I am able to wander the store again.
https://mariettadermatologyskincare.com/ Buy a mask or new product for your skin. Its been fun trying new things during this time when I don’t have to worry that my skin will react in a bad way because who cares? Not going anywhere. I’m currently obsessed with Skin Better Science products. Ive had them sitting in my bathroom for forever and never tried them.
Minimalistbaker.com Crispy Quinoa Sweet Potato Fritters are my new favorite. And the amount of things I can now do with chickpeas is insane. All Delish. And quarantine approved. Also my almost three year old is obsessed with beans. So there’s that. How did I do that? No idea.
Bookofthemonth.com I’ve always loved to read. With two little ones it often goes on the back burner. My sister in law introduced me to book of the month club and I figured I would give it a try. I am trying to make a point to read or listen to an audio book every day. I really enjoy it. So why would I not make the time? My dream of filling a room in my home with books is slowly coming to fruition. I am not a hoarder with anything except books. Just finished Before we were yours, The Giver of Stars, and On Earth We’re Briefly Gorgeous. Need new recs!!
onepeloton.com Jake and I purchased a peloton bike in January to help with my postpartum fitness journey. Running is not something that is easily done for me now (if you know what I mean mommas) So this was a much needed purchase. And it has been ammaaazing way to blow of steam while stuck at home. Because lets be honest—I wasn’t able to get to the gym anyways with a two year old and a 6 month old. And if you can’t buy the bike as it is quite the investment—they are offering a 3 month free trial during this time of their streaming service. Weights, Yoga, Meditation. These classes are all available on demand. And are amazing.
So that’s a little look inside my quarantined life. What are you doing for yourself these days?
