I was seeing the Aquagold treatment float around Instagram for months and to me, it looked like another microneedling device with a fancy gold package. Ok, Ok. I’m a skeptical person. But I had to try it out for myself to see what the difference between the two treatments would be. I’m a huge advocate of microneedling, as I have seen some impressive texture improvements with it. So what makes Aquagold different?
So what is the real difference, anyways?
From a depth point a view, not much. A microneedling device can in fact penetrate much deeper than Aquagold. Microneedling can reach the depth of 2.5mm. Aquagold can reach 0.06 mm-so much more superficial. When I learned of this I became even MORE skeptical! But let me explain why there are both great in their own regards.
Aquagold uses micro-channels so that we are able to deliver product to your skin. Translation: those small needles are hollow, so whatever product we’re trying to deliver will move through those needles into your skin. We can use botox, hyaluronic acid fillers, biopelle, PRP, and others to formulate a concoction specific to your skin needs. In my personal opinion, the small amounts of botox (or “microtox” as the cosmetic world is calling it) is what is shrinking the pores and giving this amazing glow. Who would have thought that there would be yet ANOTHER use for botox? It seriously has to be like my favorite thing.
Microneedling uses standard needles to penetrate the skin and promote wound healing in order to build collagen. This is a great treatment for someone with texture issues who is looking for some improvement of fine lines. It is even better for someone with acne scars as it can significantly improve them. It does not deliver product, but PRP can be used after treatment to penetrate the skin and help with wound healing and collagen growth.
What to expect from Aquagold treatment
You may be slightly red for a few hours after the procedure. The next day you are going to wake up and be GLOWING. If I was getting married again (ha that would never happen but hear me out) this would be the one treatment I would have done for my skin a few days before the ceremony. My last treatment was 5 days ago and the effects are still present and going strong. A perfect glow. If you become an addict like me, you can have the treatment done as frequently as every 4-6 weeks for a few months and then quarterly to maintain. I’m seriously chasing the glow. After about 4 weeks I was ready for another treatment. But, I may also have an addiction. 😀
Even though we may be using botox or filler delivered into your skin with aquagold, these products are not working on the deeper lines or volume replacement. They are being placed superficially for texture improvements and to improve skin quality. So no worries about side effects or risks that are associated with injections. We’re too superficial to have any effect on the muscles or on underlying vasculature.
So what do you think? Would you give it a try? Take it from me working in the aesthetics industry for almost a decade. You don’t want to miss out on this game changer.
