New to our practice this month is Profound RF! Profound is a device that uses microneedling and radiofrequency to create elastin, collagen, and hylaluronic acid. Ok so now you’re thinking…that all sounds great—but what does it DO? Well by stimulating the three fundamental building blocks of the skin that break down with time as we age, we are reducing the appearance of wrinkles, tightening the skin, and reducing the appearance of cellulite on the body. I realize that all of this sounds way too good to be true, but I have seriously been waiting to get my hands on this technology! It is the newest nonsurgical treatment option that can deliver results with minimal downtime. It is the perfect option for someone that is unable to take the recovery time necessary from their busy schedule to have a surgery, for someone that needs a bit of tightening but is not quite ready to go under the knife, OR for any individual that has cellulite (so let’s be honest, every woman in existence).
FACIAL TREATMENTS
As a non-surgical injector, I am able to do a lot of things with the tools that I have. I can smooth wrinkles with toxins, I can replace lost volume in various areas of the face to obtain a more refreshed appearance. However, dealing with the loose, sagging skin of the lower face that happens to everyone as we age has been an area of treatment challenge for me. It typically will result in a referral for surgical procedures due to the fact that nothing seems to produce substantial results without going under the knife. Until now! Profound fills this gap. It is for patients that are not ready for surgery. Whether that is because they’re too young (30s,40s,50s) to commit to a face lift or just not financially ready to undergo surgery. Or hello? They are busy and just don’t have the time. Profound helps to tighten the lower face and neck, reduce the appearance of wrinkles, and the downtime is very minimal. Bruising and swelling can last about 7 days, but no limitations on going back to work or play after 48 hours with makeup if you feel up to it. It is really a game changer.
Did someone say CELLULITE TREATMENT?
Cellulite is a term for the formation of lumps and dimples in the skin, typically in the buttocks and thighs. It occurs when the fat deposits push through the connective tissue in the skin, leaving a lumpy appearance. It can occur in males and females alike, but is more common in females due to our fat distribution. In fact, it is present in 80-90 percent of females. It has also been a frustrating complaint to practitioners because in the past has been difficult to treat. Hormones, lack of exercise, excess fat, and poor circulation all contribute to cellulite formation. Enter Profound RF. While I will always, always, always (did I say always?) recommend a healthy diet and exercise regimen that will set you up for success, there are just some stubborn patches of cellulite that will not go away no matter how hard we try. Profound RF is for THIS! Profound heats the tissue at a precise depth and temperature and for a specific amount of time to tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of cellulite. It is FDA approved for this (meaning they were able to reproduce substantial results) and only takes one treatment per area treated!
How exactly is it reducing cellulite? Profound RF’s needles penetrate the skin 6mm in depth into the cellulite. Here it applies radiofrequency to the subcutaneous fat in order to increase collagen to create stronger fibrous bands. Which means that the fat will have a more difficult time “pushing through” to create that lumpy appearance.
Profound RF can also be used for skin tightening of the body. Think about that pocket of skin and fat that has stuck around after having children or the loose skin that seems to always want to form above the knees. Profound is a great treatment option for these instances. It is stimulating production of the fundamental building blocks of the skin: collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. These building blocks break down as we age creating loose skin. And by stimulating their production, we are then helping to improve wrinkles and tighten the skin.
What is the procedure ACTUALLY like?
The procedure itself will take about an hour or so depending on what areas are being treated. The area is treated first with local anesthetic as well as topical anesthetic if necessary. This is the part of the procedure that is uncomfortable. If your one that does not do well with needles, or if we are treating a larger surface area (think lower face and neck) we will likely pretreat with something to calm you down and we can discuss this at your consult. After the anesthetic is placed and has kicked in, the procedure itself should be comfortable.
I am super excited to be able to offer this treatment for my patients and would love to schedule a consult with you to discuss further!
