Winter Skin Regimen

So living out west for the past almost ten years, it never really got THAT cold.  Being back in Georgia, I’m not going to lie, I seemed to have forgotten exactly how cold it gets here! Winter? Didn’t realize that was a thing! Thank goodness for online shopping that will ship winter clothes to my door.  With an almost 2 year old at home, there is just never any time!!!

So I’m trying to adapt to the colder weather and my skin certainly is as well.  What things if any do you change in your regimen when the weather gets a bit colder? Thought we could talk about a few tips/tricks!

When we crank up the heat in our homes or make our showers so hot that we may get a second degree burn (am I the only one that does this?), we’re actually causing water to escape from our skin and become drier.  I cannot stand my skin to be overly dry as that is when fine lines are more noticeable.  So what can we do about it?

Moisturizing is KEY.

Its important to not only find a good moisturizer during this time, but to also use cleansers and products that are not going to also be drying.  Below is a favorite daily regimen for dry skin.

Morning

  1. gentle cleanser (elta MD foaming facial cleanser)

2. Revision hydrating serum —adding this step before your moisturizer helps with extremely dry skin as this penetrates deeper than your moisturizer alone.

3. SPF – intellishade  -moisturizer that includes peptides, antioxidants, and spf to leave your skin glowing

Evening

1.Gentle cleanser (see above)

2. hydrating serum or luminity oil (again, penetrating deeper)

3. moisturizer -Marietta Derm Essentials Advanced Biotherapy or Revision DEJ night

These are just a few recommendations that I make for dry dry skin.  It’s not uncommon for someone who is sensitive to have to cut back their retin a during this time as it is causing cell turn over and dryness.  This can be too much for some in the winter time.  Finding a retinol or retina with peptides and moisture can help to offset this.  DEJ night is one of my favs for this.  It is not overly irritating and the active ingredients are still there.

What else can I do?

Hydrate! drinking water is so so good for your skin.  I’ll be the first to admit that I am terrible at hydrating and my skin takes a toll from it!

Using a humidifier at night will put some of that moisture back into the air that we are losing from our heaters.

Don’t forget your lips! Cracked and chapped lips also make their appearance this time of the year and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ormedic balancing lip complex.
